GAFAM stands for Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft. ClearDNS is the first DNS filter to offer dedicated blocking for Big Tech trackers. This category blocks analytics, telemetry, and tracking domains from these companies while letting their core services work.
A VPN encrypts all your traffic and routes it through a remote server, which can slow things down. ClearDNS works at the DNS level: it controls which domains your devices can reach without tunneling all your traffic. This means faster speeds, lower latency, and protection that works across every app.

DNS-level filtering blocks ads and trackers across most apps and browsers without needing per-app extensions. It's particularly effective for in-app ads that browser extensions can't reach. Some first-party ads (like YouTube video ads served from youtube.com) may still appear since they share the same domain as the content.
